Personal Choice

It is the motorists’ choice of which vehicle type they wish to purchase and use (electric vehicles, internal combustion engines or hybrids). Only you know which vehicle is best for your lifestyle and economic situation. No one should mandate which type of vehicle you can drive.

Free Market

The free market, driven by individual choice and unhindered by government interference, should determine to what extent EVs are adopted for use by the motoring public. This means we oppose bans on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle manufacture and sale, as well as subsidies using our tax dollars to encourage the purchase of EVs. We are also opposed to unrealistic emissions standards that, by default, distort the market in favor of EVs or unduly restrict the use of ICE vehicles.

Forced Adoption

The forced adoption of EVs pose major concerns, particularly at the proposed banishment of ICE vehicles, with current issues such as driving range, availability and affordability of charging infrastructure, environmental impact due to mining of rare earth minerals for batteries, and burdens on the electric grid. However, we are not positioned to address most of these issues directly. Our mandate is to address the concerns of motorists, which includes supporting public policies that improve access to automobility infrastructure for all drivers.

Government Overreach

To the extent that governmental power is being used to force the adoption of EVs as part of a larger agenda to reduce our ability to drive where we want, when we want, and how we want, the NMA will continue to actively resist these authoritarian efforts. As we have always done since our founding, we will vigorously and unwaveringly defend our driving freedoms.

Global Warming

The efforts by some to address concerns about global warming should not come at the expense of curtailing freedoms by government edict or our freedom to travel.
